THE RIGHT ATTITUDE ABOUT HISHTADLUSS

Finding the right mate requires
targeted and diligent practical effort ("hishtadluss"). One time a friend of
mine wanted to get rid of a bookcase. I was over at his house. His wife said to me that
they were about to throw the book case away. She asked me, "Before we throw this out,
would you by any chance have use for it?"
I said, "Sure."
She said that the book case is in good condition. The only thing is, it is missing most
of the pegs that fit into the walls, which allow you to place the shelves on. If I would
get the little pegs, I would have a fine, sturdy bookcase.
After they gave it to me, the book case sat around my livingroom. I didn't get around
to buying those pegs. I had the bookcase. I had the shelving. I had four of the pegs
(enough to hang up all four corners of one complete shelf - and to show a store clerk
exactly what I needed so that I could buy all the rest).
It was two and a quarter years until I went to the store. The pegs cost about 15 cents
each. For about two dollars I had a real bookcase. I saw from that experience that
sometimes there are things in life that a person would do well to achieve, and he doesn't
because of the absence of will or effort that is in one's power to exert. I could have had
that bookcase "up and running" for almost insignificant money and for a little
bit of effort. I finally decided I was going to do it. That's when I did.
Who knows what effort or investment is in the way of finding your mate? It might be a
lot. It might be less than you think. The question now is: are you doing all that is your
part to do? |
