Shabbos 12
***************GIRSA SECTION********************
We recommend using the textual changes suggested by the Bach, Rav B. Rensburg
and the parenthetical marginal notes of the Vilna Shas. This section is
devoted to any *OTHER* changes that we feel ought to be made in Gemara,
Rashi or Tosfos.)
[1] Gemara 12a [line 39]:
The words *l'Kana* d'Maya
should be *l'Lakna* d'Maya
This is the Girsa of Dikdukei Sofrim #2,
the first printing of Gemara and the Aruch (Erech Lakan)
[2] Gemara 12b [line 6]:
"*v'Shivtu* v'Shalom"
Rashi's Girsa is "*Shivtu* v'Shalom"
************************************************
1) [line 4] AREIVAH - a tub
2) [line 4] DELEF - water that drips from a leak in the roof
3) [line 5] HA'NITZPIN - that flow over the rim of the tub
*4a*) [line 6] SHEBE'SOCHAH - If a person *lifts* the pail in order to
spill the water, all the water in the pail is Machshir (for if the person
had no interest in the water, he would have tipped it over without lifting
it.)
4b) [line 7] HA REBBI YEHUDAH (MELACHAH SHE'EINAH TZERICHAH L'GUFAH)
When a person performs a Melachah (creative act) on Shabbos intentionally,
but does not require the usual result of the action, Rebbi Yehudah rules
that he is Chayav and Rebbi Shimon rules that he is Patur. For example, if
a person digs a hole, not because he needs the hole but rather because he
needs the sand, this is a Melachah she'Einah Tzerichah l'Gufah. (See
Insights)
5) [line 11] TZITZ - the thin gold plate on which was written "Kodesh
la'Sh-m", worn on the forehead of the Kohen Gadol (Shmos 28:36-38)
6) [line 12] AZKARAH - any name of HaSh-m
7) [line 17] HILCHESA RABESI L'SHABBOS - this is a great law that can
prevent the desecration of Shabbos
8) [line 23] MI ALIMA MI'MASNISIN? - Is it a better proof than our Mishnah?
i.e. since "l'Or ha'Ner" is after the words "Lo Yikra", as in our Mishnah,
we still do not know if this applies to "Ein Pulin" or not
9) [line 29] DI'VNEI MECHUZA - [the clothes] of city dwellers
10) [line 29] DI'VNEI CHAKLISA - [the clothes] of farmers
11) [line 34] APIK'TVIZIN - vomiting (this word is a combination of the
words APIK [=exuding] TVEI [=abundance] ZIN [=food])
12) [line 35] MOLEL - rubs between his fingers
13) [line 38] MEKATE'A - kill, even on Shabbos (lit. cut; break)
14) [line 39] (L'KANA) L'LAKNA D'MAYA - into a flask/cup of water
15) [line 40] KETOLIN - kill them
16) [line 40] V'ASHME'INAN LI KALA D'SANVASI - and let me hear the cries of
those hateful ones
17) [line 42] MA'ACHOLES - a flea or louse
18) [last line] SHABBOS HI MI'LIZ'OK - one should not weep or cry out on
Shabbos
19) [last line] YECHOLAH HI SHE'TERACHEM - Shabbos is able to bring mercy
and healing to the sick (if the Shabbos is honored, and one is not in
sorrow)
12b---------------------------------------12b
*20*) [line 1] HA'MAKOM YERACHEM - Rebbi Yehudah seems to be addressing the
blessing both for weekdays and for Shabbos
21) [line 6] (V'SHIVTU) SHIVTU V'SHALOM - rest peacefully
22) [line 12] LI'SHEYULEI BI'TFICHAH - to visit a sick person
23) [line 12] YIFKEDEICH - will remember and decree upon you
24) [line 13] YIDKERINACH - will remember you
25) [line 20] SO'ED ES HA'CHOLEH - strengthens a sick person
26) [line 20] "HASH-M YIS'ADENU AL ERES DEVAI" - "HaSh-m will fortify him
on the bed of his misery" (Tehilim 41:4)
27) [line 26] ZAN ES HA'CHOLEH - nourishes a sick person
28) [line 28] SHTEI KOMOS - the height of two people
29) [line 29] MARDE'OS - handles of the plow (a long pole)
30) [line 47] HALACHAH V'EIN MORIN KEN - this is the Halachah, but we do
not publicize it. If someone acts in accordance with this ruling, we need
not correct him
