Pesachim 97
***************GIRSA SECTION********************
We recommend using the textual changes suggested by the Bach, Rav B. Rensburg
and the parenthetical marginal notes of the Vilna Shas. This section is
devoted to any *OTHER* changes that we feel ought to be made in Gemara,
Rashi or Tosfos.)
[1] Tosfos 97a DH u'Chelala Hu:
The words "d'Iy Mes *Kodem* Chatzos"
should be "d'Iy Mes *Achar* Chatzos" (RASHASH)
[2] Rashi 97b DH Ka Mashma Lan:
The words from "v'Hashta Af Al Gav d'Ukimna li'Shemuel" until the end of the
Dibur are not found in the manuscripts (Dikdukei Sofrim #5) as is implied
from Tosfos DH Ela.
[3] Tosfos 97b DH Ela [line 8]:
The words "d'Lav Avudah (Hi) *b'Pesach*"
should be "d'Lav Avudah (Hi) *ka'Pesach*" (RASHASH)
************************************************
1) [line 7] KOL SHEB'CHATAS MESAH (CHATA'OS HA'MESOS)
There are five Chata'os that are put to death by locking them up without
food until they die:
- The offspring of a Chatas
- The Temurah (see Background to Temurah 2:1) of a Chatas
- A Chatas whose owner has died
- A Chatas of a sheep or goat that became a year old (and is therefore invalid as a Korban Chatas), whose owner brought a different Chatas to atone for his sins
- A Chatas that was lost and was later found with a Mum, whose owner brought a different Chatas to atone for his sins (Temurah 21b)
2) [line 36] AVEIDAS LAILAH LAV SHEMAH AVEIDAH
A animal designated as a Korban that was lost during a time period when it
was not able to be sacrificed anyway, is considered as if it was never lost
at all. Examples of this are (i) if it was lost at night, when no sacrifices
are offered, or (ii) if the Korban Pesach was lost before midday on the 14th
of Nisan, since the time for offering it has not yet arrived.

4) [line 2] SHTEI CHATA'OS L'ACHRAYUS
(a) A person who is worried that his Korban Chatas may be lost, is able to
designate two animals, saying, "I hereby designate one of these animals as
my Korban Chatas. If that animal gets lost, the other animal will be my
Korban Chatas in its stead." If one of the animals does get lost, he is
permitted to offer the other animal as his Chatas.
(b) If neither of the animals gets lost, and one animal is sacrificed as his
Chatas, a Halachah l'Moshe mi'Sinai states that the second animal also
obtains the sanctity of a Chatas, to a certain extent. It is called "a
Chatas that was designated for Achrayus (as a substitute)," and it is not
sacrificed as a Chatas because its owner has already brought his Korban
Chatas (TOSFOS DH Hifrish).
7) [last line] SHE'YISTA'EV - it develops a Mum (a blemish that disqualifies
it from being used as a sacrifice)
