1) ON WHICH DAY MAY THE NAZIR SHAVE?
(a) Question: This is unlike Bar Pada!
(b) Answer: The next case of the Mishnah supports Bar Pada.
1. (Mishnah): If he shaved (and brought...) for the 1st
on day 30, he shaves for the 2nd on day 60.
2. Bar Pada explains that the beginning of the Mishnah
is a case where he said he would be a Nazir for 30
days.
(c) Question: The 2nd case of the Mishnah opposes Rav Masna!
(d) Answer: The end of the Mishnah says, the 30th day counts
towards the Nezirus - this means, it counts towards both
Neziruyos.
(e) Question: If the Mishnah is teaching that a partial day
counts as a full day - the previous Mishnah already
taught this!
(f) Answer: One might have thought, a partial day can only
count as a day of 1 Nezirus; the end of the Mishnah
teaches that 1 day can count as a day of 2 Neziruyos.
(g) (Mishnah): If he shaved on day 59 (after having shaved
for the 1st Nezirus on day 30), he fulfilled the 2nd
Nezirus, since day 30 counts.
1. We understand this according to Rav Masna (as
explained above).
(h) Question: According to Bar Pada, Nezirus is 29 days -
what does the Mishnah teach?
(i) Answer: This was Bar Pada's source to say that Nezirus is
29 days!
2) A NAZIR THAT BECAME TAMEI ON THE LAST DAY
(a) (Mishnah): A man accepted Nezirus, and became Tamei on
day 30 - this nullifies the entire Nezirus (he must be a
Nazir 30 more days after becoming Tahor).
1. This is understood according to Rav Masna.
(b) Question: According to Bar Pada, he already fulfilled his
Nezirus - why is it nullified?
6b---------------------------------------6b
(c) Answer: The end of the Mishnah supports Bar Pada.
1. (Mishnah - R. Eliezer): He must only keep the
restrictions of a Nazir for 7 more days (i.e. until
he becomes Tahor (and brings the sacrifices).
2. If 30 days are required, the entire Nezirus should
be nullified!
i. This is no refutation of Rav Masna - he would
explain, R. Eliezer holds that part of the day
counts as a full day (even though he became
Tamei before shaving and bringing the
sacrifices).
(d) (Mishnah): 'I am a Nazir for 100 days' - if he became
Tamei on day 100, this nullifies the entire Nezirus; R.
Eliezer says, he need only conduct 30 more days as a
Nazir.
(e) Question: If R. Eliezer holds that part of the day counts
as a full day - it should suffice to keep the
restrictions of a Nazir for 7 more days (as above)!
1. If he does not hold that part of the day counts as a
full day - all 100 days should be nullified!
(f) Answer (Reish Lakish): R. Eliezer expounds "This is the
law of a Nazir on the day he completes his Nezirus" - one
who becomes Tamei on the day he completes Nezirus must
conduct as a standard Nazir.
(g) Suggestion: Rav Masna and Bar Pada argue as the following
Tana'im.
1. (Beraisa - R. Oshiya): "He will grow his hair" -
growth of hair is at least 30 days;
2. Rebbi Yonason (some texts - Rebbi) says, we need not
learn from there - it says, "Until completion of the
days" - days which require completion are 30 (of a
month).
3. Rav Masna holds as R. Oshiya, and Bar Pada as
RebbiYonason.
(h) Rejection: No - both Tana'im can hold as Rav Masna, that
Nezirus is 30 days; they argue if "until" includes the
final day.
1. R. Oshiya says it does not include the final day; R.
Yonason says that it does.
(i) Question (Beraisa): 'Days which require completion are
30' - perhaps the verse refers to days of the week!
(j) Answer: Days of the week are never lacking (so it is not
fitting to speak of their completion).
