Eruvin 8

ERUVIN 6-11 - sponsored by a generous grant from an anonymous donor. Kollel Iyun Hadaf is indebted to him for his encouragement and support and prays that Hashem will repay him in kind.

1) [line 13] MENA TEIMRA - from where can you bring a proof
2) [line 17] SEIRATON - a sand bank, silt
3) [line 23] PASIK LAH L'SURA B'UZLEI - he separated the Mavo'os of Sura from the sea with nets

4) [line 24] KARUCH BUDYA - they rolled up a mat of reeds
5) [line 26] KEIVAN D'NASHIV BEI ZIKA, V'SHADI LEI - since a wind will blow it down
6) [line 27] SICHSA - a peg (O.F. cheville)

7) [line 34] RESHUSH HA'RABIM L'TUMAH (SAFEK TUMAH B'RESHUSH HA'RABIM)
(a) When there is a doubt as to whether an object is Tahor or Tamei, if the object is found in Reshus ha'Rabim the object is Tahor. If it is found in a private, concealed place, it is judged to be Tamei.
(b) This is learned from the case of the Sotah woman (Bamidbar 5; see Background to Berachos 63, #6). In the case of a Sotah, where only two people were about at the time that there arose a question as to her status, she is judged Tamei/culpable. Similarly, whenever there are only two people present (i.e. Reshus ha'Yachid l'Tuma'ah), if a doubt arises regarding the status of an object it is judged to be Tamei. Whenever more than two people frequent a certain area (i.e. Reshus ha'Yachid l'Tuma'ah), if a doubt arises regarding the status of an object it is judged to be Tahor.

b) [line 38] MI'LEVAR - on the outside (for the people of Reshush ha'Rabim)
