CHASIDIC INSIGHTS PARSHAS VAYEITZEI 5763 BS"D

Ch. 28, v. 10: "Vayeitzei Yaakov" - Rashi says that while the tzadik is in the community he is "hadoroh." He is the power to bring people to repent. (Mo'ore Voshemesh)

Ch. 28, v. 11: "Va'yifga" - Rashi says that Yaakov established "arvis," evening prayers. Yaakov, whose outstanding trait was honesty, "ti'tein emes l'Yaakov," established evening prayers to combat the powers of falsehood, as symbolized by darkness. (Rabbi Menachem Mendel of Riminov)

Ch. 28, v. 11: "Va'yifga bamokome" - And he prayed at the place - Praying is expressed as "pega," a disconcerting non-relenting disturbance, because prayer should not be a chore to complete in short order, but rather, a continual energetic effort. (Rabbi Dovid of Lelov in Likutei Divrei Dovid)

Ch. 28, v. 11: "Va'yo'sem m'raashosov" - Rashi says that Yaakov placed 12 stones at his head and they argued, each wanting the tzadik to place his head upon it. Hashem wrought a miracle and they fused into one stone. How does this avoid an argument? Each area of the one stone can claim that the tzadik should place his head upon it. Ch. 28, v. 11: "Va'yishkav bamokome hahu" - Because he lied in that place, i.e. he cleaved to the sanctity of Eretz Yisroel, Hashem therefore promised him, "ho'oretz asher atoh shocheiv o'lehoh l'cho etnenoh" (verse 13). (The Holy Admor of Kotzk)

Ch. 28, v. 12: "Mutzov artzoh v'rosho magia hashomoymoh" - Even though a person's body is placed on the physical earth, his head, his thoughts, should be on heavenly matters. (Rabbi Yitzchok Yaakov of Biala in Divrei Vinoh)

The purpose for a person's being placed down on this physical earth is to do acts that bring him merit to ascend to the heavens. (Degel Machaneh Efrayim)

Ch. 28, v. 12,13: "V'yordim bo, V'hi'nei Hashem nitzov olov" - Even when a person feels a descent, things are going badly, "v'hi'nei Hashem nitzov olov," Hashem is there for him. (Rabbi Pinchos of Koritz in No'fes Tzufim)

Ch. 28, v. 13: "V'hi'nei Hashem nitzov olov" - "And behold there is Hashem," this teaching is "nitzov olov," incumbent upon each person. (Rabbi Hershel Ziditchover in Beis Yisroel)

Ch. 28, v. 16: "Va'yikatz Yaakov mishnoso" - And Yaakov was disgusted, "kutz," with his act of having had a good night's sleep, as he was accustomed to not do so during the previous 14 years. (Rabbi Meir Yehudoh of Bukovesk in Ohr l'Meir)
