CHASIDIC INSIGHTS PARSHAS EMOR 5762 BS"DCh. 21, v. 1: "Emor el haKohanim bnei Aharon" - Tell the Kohanim that they are children of Aharon and must emulate his traits of loving and pursuing peace. (Rabbi Eliezer Zvi of Kamarna in Da'me'sek Eliezer)Ch. 21, v. 1: "L'nefesh lo yitamo" - The leaders of the bnei Yisroel are responsible to see that not even one "nefesh" becomes defiled. See to it that all bnei Yisroel learn to serve Hashem properly. (Rabbi Shlomo of Radomsk in Tiferes Shlomo) Ch. 21, v. 1: "L'nefesh lo yitamo b'amov" - When one lowers himself to the level of the common man, "b'amov," with the intention of teaching him to better himself, he should be careful to not defile his own soul, "l'nefesh lo yitamo," during this encounter. (Rabbi Yisroel of Tchortkov in Tiferes Yisroel) Ch. 21, v. 1: "L'nefesh lo yitamo b'amov" - Do not defile your soul through "amov," coldness when performing mitzvos, from the word source "um'mose," - coals that are extinguishing and cooling down. (Rabbi Aharon Hagodol of Karlin in Beis Aharon, Rabbi chanoch Henoch of Alexander in Chashovoh L'tovoh) Ch. 21, v. 1: "B'amov" - Rashi says that we derive from this word that a Kohein should defile himself to a "meis mitzvoh." For one who learns Torah and performs mitzvos in a lifeless manner, "meis mitzvoh," there is still hope that he can serve Hashem properly, with enthusiasm. Involve yourself with him. Teach him to bring life into his Torah and mitzvos. (Rabbiyehoshua of Ostrova in Toldos Odom) Ch. 22, v. 22: "Shovur o chorutz .. lo sakrivu laShem" - A person whose spirit is broken to the point that he falls into dispare, "shovur," or a person who acts in a wily cunning manner, "chorutz," is not accepted by Hashem, "lo sakrivu laShem." (Rabbi Yisroel of Modzitz in Divrei Yisroel) Ch. 23, v. 2: "Mikro'ei kodesh ei'leh heim moadoy" - When you invest sanctity into the Yomim Tovim, then they are My holidays. I will join you in your rejoicing. (Noam Elimelech) Ch. 23, v. 3: "Sheishes yomim TEI'O'SEH m'lochoh u'vayom hashvii Shabbas Shabbosone" - Only if you are not totally immersed in work during the six weekdays, but rather your mind is directed to service of Hashem and your work seems incidental, "TEI'O'SEH m'lochoh," will you experience and double level of Shabbos on the seventh day, "Shabbas Shabbosone." (Noam Elimelech) Ch. 23, v. 4: "Mo'a'dei Hashem mikro'ei kodesh" - The Yomim Tovim of Hashem call out, "Be holy!" (Chidushei Hori"m in Beis Yisroel) Ch. 23, v. 4: "Chag hamotzos" - The gemara Brochos 6a says that the text in our tefillin gives praise to Hashem, while the text in Hashem's tefillin praises the bnei Yisroel, as they contain the verse "Umi k'amcho Yisroel goy echod bo'oretz" (Shmuel 2:7:23, Divrei Hayomim 1:17:21). We call the Yom Tov Pesach to show our appreciation of Hashem Who jumped (had mercy) over the homes of the bnei Yisroel when He smote the Egyptian firstborn. Hashem, in turn, calls the Yom Tov "chag hamatzos," extolling the praises of the bnei Yisroel by stressing that they left Egypt with matzos as their only provisions, totally trusting in Hashem.
