Yoma 24
1) THE QUANTITY OF TERUMAS HADESHEN
(a) Question: How much Deshen must be removed?
1. If we apply Terumas Ma'aser, it would be a tenth.
2. If we apply Terumas Midyan, it would be 1/500th.
(b) Answer: From Korban Minchah we learn that it is a Kometz.
2) A ZAR IS CHAYAV MISAH FOR THE FOLLOWING
(a) There is a Machlokes whether Terumas HaDeshen is (Levi) or
is not (Rav) one of the Avodos for which a Zar is Chayav
Misah.
(b) Question: What are Rav's sources?
(c) Answer: Avodas Matanah (not Avodas Siluk); also, Avodah
Tamah (no Avodah following it).
(d) Question: What is Levi's source?
(e) Answer: The Torah has included Avodas Siluk [L'Chol D'var
HaMizbeach].
1. Rav uses this Pasuk to include sprinklings.
2. Levi learns the sprinklings from D'var and Kol D'var.
3. Rav does not see the significance of these words.
(f) Question: Maybe there is a Klal (L'Chol D'var) U'frat
(Avodas Matanah) here to *exclude* Avodas Siluk?
24b---------------------------------------24b
(g) Answer: The Klal U'frat is interrupted by intervening words.
1. The restriction of Avodas Siluk (not being Chayav) only
applied to the Avodah within the Paroches.
2. Outside the Paroches, a Zar is Chayav for Avodas Siluk.
(h) Question: Perhaps Avodah Tamah also only applies within?
(i) Answer: The Vav of Va'Avadtam connects it to L'Chol D'var.
3) AVODAS SILUK IN THE HEICHAL
(a) Question (Rava): What is the status of Avodas Siluk in the
Heichal (is it like within or without)?
(b) Answer: U'l'MiBeis comes to include the Heichal.
(c) Question: Then a Zar who places the Lechem HaPanim (in the
Heichal) should be Chayav (and included in the list of Rav)?
(d) Answer: It is not Avodah Tamah (there is Bazichin after).
(e) Question: Then a Zar should be Chayav for Sidur Bazichin?
(f) Answer: There is still Siluk Bazichin and Haktarah.
(g) Question: A Zar who cleans out the Menorah should be Chayav?
(h) Answer: It is followed by the placement of the Pesilim.
(i) Question: Then placing the Pesilim should be Mechayev?!
(j) Answer: There is still the pouring of the oil.
(k) Question: The Zar should be Chayav for pouring the oil?
(l) Answer: There is still the lighting.
(m) Question: The Zar should be Chayav for the lighting?
(n) Answer: Hadlakah is not an Avodah.
(o) Question: But the Beraisa teaches that igniting the Alisa
*is* an Avodah?!
(p) Answer: Igniting the Alisa is an Avodah; Hadlakah is not.
4) A ZAR AND SIDUR HAMA'ARACHAH
(a) Question: A Zar should be Chayav for Sidur HaMa'arachah?
(b) Answer: There is still the Sidur of the Eitzim.
(c) Question: Then he should be Chayav for Sidur Eitzim?
(d) Answer: There is still Sidur Eivarim (which *is* listed).
(e) Question: But R. Yochanan taught that a Zar *would* be
Chayav for Sidur Eitzim?
(f) Answer: Their Machlokes is whether the Sidur Eitzim is the
conclusion of the Avodah (R. Yochanan) or if the Sidur
Eivarim is the G'mar (Rav).
(g) There are Beraisos to support both Rav and Levi (as cited).
5) FOUR PAYSOS
(a) Question: Why do the Paysos?
(b) Answer: The Mishnah is explicit about the reasons!!
(c) Question: Why do we not do the Paysos one after the other?
(d) Answer: To increase the frequency of tumult in the Azarah.
6) PROPER ATTIRE FOR A PAYIS
(a) Question: What garments are worn to attend the Payis?
(b) Answer: It is a Machlokes whether they wear Bigdei Chol (R.
Nachman) or Bigdei Kodesh (R. Sheshes).
1. R. Nachman is concerned for losers who might change
into Bigdei Kodesh and usurp the jobs they lost.
2. R. Sheshes is concerned about excited winners who would
jump ahead to do the Avodah before changing garments.
