1) SUBSEQUENT TREATMENT OF THE REPLACEMENT KOHEN GADOL (cont'd)
(a) R. Yosi agrees that if the first Kohen Gadol dies, that the
replacement takes his place permanently.
(b) Question: This seems obvious?
(c) Answer: We might have wished to avoid hard feelings.
2) A REPLACEMENT WIFE
(a) Question: Why do the Rabanan regard the risk of his Pesul
moreso than his death?
(b) Answer: The likelihood of Tumah is greater.
(c) Question: How would R. Yehudah respond to the "endless
risks" concern of the Rabanan?
(d) Answer: We concern ourselves with the risk of one death, not
two (while Rabanan hold that once we are concerned about
deaths, we would be concerned even for two).
(e) Question: What of the "endless risk" charge against the
Rabanan?
(f) Answer: Kohen Gadol is a Zariz.
(g) Question: Then why the need for the replacement?
(h) Answer: To spur him on even further.
(i) Question: But designating the replacement does not make her
his "Beiso?"
(j) Answer: He gives her Kidushin.
(k) Question: But without Chupah, she is still not Beiso?
(l) Answer: He does Chupah.
(m) Question: But then he has two wives, and it is not Beiso?
(n) Answer: He then divorces her.
(o) Question: Then we are back where we started?!
(p) Answer: He divorces her on condition.
3) THE CONDITIONAL DIVORCE OF THE KOHEN GADOL
(a) He stipulates, "If you die..."
(b) Question: He could then end up with two wives?
(c) Answer: He stipulates, "If you don't die..."
(d) Question: He could end up with no wife?!
(e) Answer: He stipulates, "If one of my wives dies..."
(f) Question: He could end up with two wives?
(g) Question #2: A Get with a life-long condition is not valid?!
(h) Answer: He stipulates, "If the other does not die..."
(i) Question: He could end up having had done the first half of
the Avodah with two wives?!
13b---------------------------------------13b
(j) Answer: He made a prior stipulation, "If the other dies..."
(k) Question: He could end up with no wife?
(l) Answer: He divorces both with stipulations:
1. To the first, "If the other does not die..."
2. To the second, "If you do not walk into..."
(m) Question: But he could end up with no wife?!
(n) Answer: He takes the stipulation to the second wife into his
own control (and if he sees that one is dying he can
retroactively activate the divorce of the other).
(o) Question: But it says the singular Bayis by Yibum, as well?
(p) Answer: The extra Yevimto increases the number.
(q) Question: But an Arusah should be restricted by Yibum?
(r) Answer: We learn Arusah by Yibum from HaChutzah.

whom we know great strictness in this area?!
