Ta'anis 28

TA'ANIS 27, 28, 29, 30 - Ari Kornfeld has generously sponsored the Dafyomi publications for these Dafim for the benefit of Klal Yisrael

1) [line 27] PERUZDA'OS - guards

2) [line 28] YERAV'AM BEN NEVAT
Yerav'am Ben Nevat of the tribe of Efrayim was the first king of the ten tribes of Yisrael after their secession from the kingdom of the Davidic dynasty (subsequently known as Yehudah), as recorded in Melachim I 11:26- 12:20. Upon Shlomo ha'Melech's death, Rechav'am, his son, took the counsel of his young advisors to increase the high tax and hard labor that Shlomo had instituted (Melachim I 12:14). As a result, the people rebelled under the leadership of Yerav'am ben Nevat. In order to prevent the people of the ten tribes from returning to the leadership of the Davidic kings, Yerav'am outlawed the Mitzvah of Aliyah l'Regel (traveling to the Beis ha'Mikdash for Pesach, Shavu'os and Sukos). Instead, he set up two golden calves (ibid. I 12:28), one in Beis El and one in Dan, and proclaimed that they should be served.

3) [line 29] V'CHIPUM B'KETZI'OS - and they covered them (the fruits of Bikurim) with dry figs

4) [line 31] IGULEI DEVEILAH - round pressed cakes of dry figs
5) [line 31] MACHTESHES - a mortar
6) [line 32] ITRUM B'SALIM - they decorated [the fruits that were] in [the] baskets
7) [line 42] YO'AV BEN TZERUYAH - King David's general and nephew. Tzeruyah was the daughter of Yishai, David's father

9) [line 49] SHIKUTZ SHOMEM - the mute abomination
10) [line 49] "...V'AL KENAF SHIKUTZIM MESHOMEM..." - "[And he shall make a strong covenant with many for one week; and for half of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the offering to cease,] and the mute abominations shall be on soaring heights, [until the decreed destruction is poured out upon the abomination.]" (Daniel 9:27)
