Shabbos 122

1)

(a) When may one drink the water that a non-Jew has drawn, and when may one not?

(b) When may one water one's animal from water that a non-Jew has drawn from a well in the street, and when may one not?

(c) Rabban Gamliel used the ramp that gentiles had made to descend from their ship. Does the Tana Kama agree with this?

2)
(a) Why does the Tana find it necessary to add the Din of water (refered to in 1a.) after having told us the same Din with regard to a lamp?

(b) And why did he need to add the Din of the ramp?

(c) Are the cases that are Asur, forbidden min ha'Torah or mi'de'Rabbanan?

3)
(a) Is one permitted to feed one's animal with ...
  1. ... grass that a gentile cut for his own animal?
  2. ... grass that he cut for the animal of a Jew?
  3. ... grass from a storehouse, and why is that?
(b) How do we then explain the answer in 1., since the grass there, which was attached at the commencement of Shabbos, is also Muktzah?

(c) When is it forbidden to feed one's animal grass that a non-Jew cut, or water which he drew from a well in the street, even if it it was cut or drawn for the animals of non-Jews?

(d) In light of this, Abaye explains that the gentiles, who knew Raban Gamliel, must have made the ramp when Raban Gamliel was not there (see Tosfos DH 'Amar'). How does Rava explain it - even if they made it when he *was* there?

4)
(a) If the gentiles heated a public bathhouse on Shabbos, when is a Jew permitted to bathe in it immediately after the termination of Shabbos, and when must he wait 'bi'Chedei she'Ya'asu'?

(b) What does 'bi'Chedei she'Ya'asu' mean?

(c) Why do we not say there, in all cases 'Ner le'Echad, Ner le'Mei'ah (even according to Abaye, since the water is not heated in front of the Jews)?

(d) Why is Mechtzah al Mechtzah also forbidden until 'bi'Chedei she'Ya'asu'?

5) When a gentile came and lit a lamp, Shmuel refused to benefit from it. What caused him to change his mind?

*****Hadran Alach, 'Kol ha'Kelim'!*****

*****Perek Kol Kisvei*****

6)

(a) What is the difference between a detached door of a vessel and the detached door of a house?

(b) Is one permitted to pick up a tool (whose function is prohibited on Shabbos) to use for a function that is permitted on Shabbos?

(c) Which is the bigger Chidush: that one may pick up the door of a vessel that broke off on Shabbos, or one that broke off during the week?

(d) Is there any difference Halachically?

7)
(a) Why is it forbidden to remove or to replace the door of a chicken-coop on Shabbos?

(b) One is however, permitted to remove a door from a box or a cupboard, but not to return it. Abaye thought that there *is* Binyan and Setirah by vessels.
How then, does he explain the Beraisa 'Deles shel Shidah ... Notlin, Aval Lo Machzirin'?

(c) Rava disagrees with Abaye, who makes major changes in the Lashon of the Beraisa.
How does *he* explain the Beraisa?

8)
(a) Rav Yehudah explains the hammer in our Mishnah to mean a hammer especially made to crack nuts.
What does he hold with regard to a 'Davar she'Melachto le'Isur'?

(b) What did Rabah ask on Rav Yehudah - from our very Mishnah, which proved him wrong?

(c) So what does Rabah hold with regard to a 'Davar she'Melachto le'Isur'?
