Rosh Hashanah 30

1) [line 5] UV'YAVNEH EIN TOK'IN YECHIDIN - in Yavneh, they may not blow the Shofar as individuals (but only Beis Din may blow)

2) [line 8] LO SHAMA INISH KAL UNEI MI'KAL TEKI'ASA [D'YECHIDA'EI] - a person could not hear his own voice (lit. his sound that goes into his ear) from the sound of the blasts [of the individuals that were blowing the Shofar]

3) [line 20] MITZVAS ASEH SHE'HA'ZEMAN GERAMA
Mitzvos which must be performed at a specific time of the day belong to the category called Mitzvas Aseh sheha'Zeman Gerama. Some examples are Sukah, Lulav, Shofar, Tefilin and Tzitzis. Women are exempt from these Mitzvos, with the exception of Kidush on Friday night, Matzah on Pesach night, the Korban Pesach, Hakhel, and Simchah on Pesach, Shavu'os and Sukos. (RAMBAM Hilchos Avodah Zarah 12:3)

4) [line 40] YOM HA'NEF (CHADASH) - (the day on which the Korban ha'Omer is waved)
(a) Chadash is any grain that has not begun to take root until after the Korban ha'Omer is brought on the second day of Pesach. This grain may not be eaten until next year's Korban ha'Omer is brought (or when there is no Beis ha'Mikdash, until the day that it would have been brought), as it states in Vayikra 23:14 ("v'Lechem v'Kali v'Charmel Lo Sochlu ...").
(b) Many Rishonim rule that the prohibition of Chadash applies mid'Oraisa even in Chutz la'Aretz.

5) [line 41] "KI A'ALEH ARUCHAH LACH, UMI'MAKOSAYICH ERPA'ECH NE'UM HASH-M; KI NIDACHAH KAR'U LACH, TZIYON HI, DORESH EIN LAH" - "For I will make a cure for you; and I will heal you from your wounds, says HaSh-m; for they called you, 'Discarded!' [saying,] 'She is Tziyon -- no one cares about her!'"(Yirmiyahu 30:17)

6) [line 42] D'BA'AYA DERISHAH - it requires our beseeching and yearning
7) [line 44] ESHTAKAD - last year

30b---------------------------------------30b

8) [line 2] AD ATZMO SHEL YOM - that very day [the Girsa in some manuscripts and in Sukah 41a and Menahcos 68a is "Itzumo Shel Yom"]

9) [line 10] DARASH V'HISKIN - he expounded [the verse to prove that the entire day of the sixteenth of Nisan is forbidden by the Torah] and publicly decreed accordingly (i.e. he publicized the Torah's law so that people would not mistakenly eat produce from the new crop after midday, as they did when the Beis ha'Mikdash stood..)

10) [line 13] SHIR
the various songs of Tehilim that are recited each day in the Beis ha'Mikdash by the Leviyim. See Insights to Sukah 55:1.

11) [line 18] HACHAH TARGIMU - here [in Bavel] they explain it
12) [line 25] SHE'LO B'SHIBUSH - without confusion, blunder
13) [line 35] LO HAYAH OMER B'SHACHARIS HARNINU - when Rosh Hashanah fell on Thursday, they would not recite the verses of "Harninu" in the morning, as they usually did on Thursday mornings. Since "Harninu" is the Shir of Rosh Hashanah as well, instead of saying it twice (once in the morning for Thursday, and once in the afternoon for Rosh Hashanah), they recited it only in the afternoon, and in the morning they recites the verses of "Hasirosi" instead.
