also counted her in to his Korban.

1. The Bereisa teaches that on the first Regel she is
automatically included with her father, and;
2. After the first Regel, she may choose either one!?
(b) Answer: The Bereisa is speaking of a woman who was always
pressured to eat in her father's home.
(c) The Pasuk describes the desire of a woman to visit her father's
home to tell them how well she has been accepted.
(d) A second Pasuk describes a woman's shift to feeling "married."
4) TORAH SCHOLARS IN SHIR HASHIRIM
(a) "A younger sister without breasts" refers to scholars who learned
but did not have the opportunity to teach (i.e. to nurse) others.
1. [R. Yochanan] "I am a wall and my breasts are towers" refers
to Torah and to Torah scholars.
2. [Rava] This Pasuk refers to the House of Israel and its
houses of prayer and study.
(b) "Our sons like plants..." refers to the young men who have not
tasted sin.
(c) "Our daughters like cornerstones..." refers to Jewish maidens who
reserve themselves for their husbands.
1. This use of Zavios is demonstrated in Zechariah.
2. Alternately, its use is found in Tehilim.
(d) "Carved like the Heichal" means that these sons and daughters are
considered to have caused the Heichal to be built in their days.
5) THE PROPHET HOSEA
(a) Hosea is called the *first* of the prophets.
(b) Question: There were many prophets from Moshe to Hosea!?
(c) Answer: He was the first among his four contemporaries.
(d) HaShem is displeased when he tells Hosea,"your sons have sinned."
1. Hosea should have responded that they are *Your* children,
the children of Your beloved ones, have mercy on them.
2. Rather he answered that HaShem can exchange them for others.
(e) To teach Hosea, HaShem will tell him to take a harlot and have
children of questionable birth, and if he can then bear to send
them away, then HaShem will send away His People.
1. The Pesukim dealing with Hosea's marriage are analyzed.
(i) His wife is called "Gomer." [Two explanations]

(ii) The daughter of "Divlayim." [Three explanations.]
(iii)She has a son whom Hosea is told to call Yizrael.
(iv) She has a daughter to be named Lo Ruchama.
(v) She has a son named Lo Ami.
2. HaShem tells Hosea to divorce her.
3. Hosea protests that he cannot break his ties to her.
4. HaShem makes the point that these questionable children bind
you, yet you maintain the tie, all the more so My ties to My
children, the children of those I have tested, the House of
Israel, one of My four acquisitions!
(i) Torah
(ii) Heaven and Earth
(iii)Beis HaMikdash
(iv) House of Israel
5. Hosea, realizing his error, begins to plea for mercy.

(3) HaShem will once again call the People Ami.
6) R. YOCHANAN ON LEADERSHIP

(b) Yeravam is counted among the kings of Judea (as reported in
Hosea) because he did not accept Lashon Hara about Amos (as
reported in Amos).

(a) HaShem recalls His Mercy even when He is angry. [Two sources.]
(b) Israel was dispersed in order to accrue converts. [Two sources.]
(c) [R. Yochanan] Do not say bad things about even the worst
generation of Jews [proof from Hosea]!
(d) [R. Oshiya] The Jews benefit from being scattered in that the
Gentiles cannot destroy the Jews in one blow.
1. The Gentile claimed to R. Chanina that they are better than
the Jews in that they have not destroyed the Jews, unlike
the Jews who utterly destroyed their enemies.
2. R. Oshiya [a student] responded that destroying the Jews
preoccupies you [the Gentiles].
(i) You are restrained because you don't know how.
(ii) The Jews are not all under one rulership.
(iii)If one nation destroys them that nations will be
considered murderous.

Jews, indeed, occupies their every waking moment.

of Edom, exiled them to Bavel.
(f) HaShem exiled the Jews to Bavel since it is low, and the Pasuk
assures the Jews of being redeemed from the depths.
(g) HaShem exiled the Jews to Bavel because their language is similar
to Lashon HaKodesh (and Torah will be retained thereby).
(h) [R. Yochanan] HaShem exiled the Jews to Bavel, sending them back
to "their mother's house" [as one would do to his wife at whom he
became angered].
(i) R. Alexandri taught that three things returned to the place of
their original planting.
1. House of Israel.
2. The wealth of Mitzrayim.
3. The writing on the Luchos.
