Pesachim 79
1) [9th line] MINIMUM REMAINING INGREDIENTS FOR R. YEHOSHUA
(a) Our Mishna follows the opinion of R. Yehoshua.
1. In the Bereisa he teaches that as long as there is
a kezayis to be consumed either by the Mizbeach or
by the person, there can be Zerikah.
2. The presence of the Korban's Mincha is not
sufficient to permit the Zerikah.
(b) Question: How do we know that Chelev is sufficient?
(c) Answer: The Pasuk speaks of Chelev alone.
(d) Question: How do we know the Yoseres HaKaved and the
Klayos are sufficient?
1. Question: Who says they *are* sufficient?
2. Answer: The Tana mentioned that the Mincha is
*not* sufficient, from which we may infer that the
Yoseres HaKaved and the Klayos *are*.
(e) Answer: The end of the Pasuk of Chelev says "Re'ach
Nichoach" teaches that they are sufficient.
1. We need both Chelev and Re'ach Nichoach.
2. From Chelev alone we would not have known that the
Yoseres HaKaved is sufficient to permit the
Zerikah.
3. From the Yoseres HaKaved alone we might have
permitted the Zerikah based only on the Mincha.
2) MISHNA: PESACH B'TUMAH
(a) If the majority of the Kehal is Tameh, or if the
Kohanim are Tameh (even if the Kehal is Tahor), the
Korban Pesach is conducted b'Tumah.
(b) If only the minority are Tameh, they must wait for
Pesach Sheni.
3) TUMAS KLI SHARES
(a) If the Kohanim and the Kehal are Tehorim but the Kli
Shares is Tameh, the Korban Pesach proceeds b'Tumah.
(b) [R. Chisda] The Tahor Kehal can only participate in the
Tameh Korban only if the knife would be an Av HaTumah.
(c) This demonstrates that R. Chisda holds *Tumah Hudchah*.
(d) R. Yitzhak holds the same.
(e) Rava holds, based on an inference from the Pasuk, that
all people can participate even where there is only be
a lighter level of Tumah.
4) MECHTZA TAHOR - MECHTZA TAMEH
(a) Rav holds that since half is considered a majority,
each half makes its own Korban Pesach.
(b) R. Kehane holds that half is not considered a majority
and so the Tehorim make the Korban Pesach and the rest
are considered a minority and they make the Pesach
Sheni.
79b---------------------------------------79b
(c) Alternately, R. Kehane holds that the Tameh half is not
considered a minority and thus is unable to make either
Pesach.
(d) Question on Rav: The Mishna implies that half-half
would not bring the first Korban Pesach b'Tumah!?
(e) Answer: The correct implication is that half-half would
bring separate Korbanos, and this is supported by the
Seifa of the Mishna.
(f) Question: This implication, that only a minority is
pushed off to Pesach Sheni, but half-half would make a
separate Korban Rishon, is a question on R. Kehane!
(g) Answer: The correct implication from the Seifa is that
half who are Tameh do not bring either Korban.
(h) Question: This only aligns with the Alternate
explanation of R. Kehane?!
(i) Answer: The use of the term "minority" in the Seifa is
only following the use of the term "majority" in the
Reisha, and should not be inferred from.
(j) There is a Bereisa like each of the positions.
1. Like Rav - they make separate Korbanos.
2. Like the first R. Kehane - Tehorim make the first
and the Temeim make the Pesach Sheni.
3. Like the second R. Kehane - Temeim do not make
either Korban Pesach.
(k) Question: How will Rav and the second R. Kehane explain
the Bereisa [which supports the first R. Kehane]?
(l) Answer: It is speaking where the majority of men are
Tahor, and the Tameh women bring us exactly to half-
half.
1. This Tana holds that the women are permitted, not
obligated [even] in the first Pesach.
2. Thus the Tameh men are a minority, to be sent to
Pesach Sheni.
3. However, a male half-half would do like Rav or
like the second R. Kehane.
(m) Question: What will Rav and the first R. Kehane do with
Bereisa which says [like the second R. Kehane] that the
Tahor half makes the first Pesach and the others make
the Pesach Sheni?
(n) Answer [Rav]: The males are 50-50 but the Tahor women
push the majority to Tahor.
1. This Tana holds that women are obligated in the
first Pesach (and are optional only in the
second).
2. The Temeim are thus the minority in the first
Pesach (and may not participate).
3. The Temeim are exactly half when it comes to the
Pesach Sheni (since we are not counting the women)
and a half may not bring then!
(o) Answer [First R. Kehane]: They were 50-50 with the
Tahor women, but the majority of men were Tameh.
1. This Tana holds like Rav regarding the obligation
of women.
2. Half-half cannot bring the first Korban.
3. The now-majority Temeim (subtracting the women)
may not bring the Pesach Sheni!
(p) Question: What will R. Kehane do with the Bereisa which
says [like Rav] that each half makes its own Korban?
(q) Answer: It is a Machlokes Tanaim whether or not half is
considered a majority.
