Nidah 70
1)
The third Sha'aleh of Chochmah which the men of Alexandria asked Rebbi
Yehoshua was, what the Din will be if the Korbanos of two Metzora'im got
mixed up, and one of the Metzora'im brought one of the Korbanos, and died.
They wanted to know what happens to the other Metzora.
(a) What would they have done had neither of the Metzora'im died?
(b) And what would the remaining Metzora have done had his friend died, but
both Korbanos would have remained intact?
(c) So what is the problem in our case?
(d) Why can he not bring the Chatas on a Safek, and make a condition that
if he is Patur, his Korban should be a Sh'lamim - like Rebbi Shimon, who
says that he can do this in the case of a Safek Asham?
2)
(a) What did Rebbi Yehoshua answer them?
(b) What does Shmuel say about the Asham, which a poor Metzora is also
required to bring?
(c) What is the problem with Shmuel's answer if we hold like Rebbi Yehudah,
who says that it is the Asham which determines the status of a Metzora?
(d) And what is the problem if we hold like Rebbi Shimon, in whose opinion
the Chatas is the determining Korban?
3)
(a) According to Rebbi Shimon, what happens to that Safek Asham, Safek
Sh'lamim as regards 1. the location of the Shechitah; 2. the placing of
the blood; 3. leaning one's hands; 4. the waving; 5. its chest and
right calf; 6. by whom and for how long it can be eaten?
(b) Why do the Rabbanan disagree with Rebbi Shimon?
(c) How do we answer the Kashya in 2d?
Answers to questions

4)
The men of Alexandria also asked Rebbi Yehoshua three questions in Agadah,
all of them concerning discrepancies in Pesukim:
1.
"Ki Lo Yisa Fanim ve'Lo Yikach Shochad." (D'varim)
"Yisa Hashem Panav Eilecha". (Bamidbar)
2.
"Ki Lo Yachpotz be'Mos ha'Meis". (Yechezkel)
"Ki Chafetz Hashem la'Hamisam". (Shmuel 1)
3.
"Ki Vachar Hashem be'Tziyon". (Tehilim)
Ki Al Api ve'Al Chamasi Haysa ha'Ir ha'Zos, le'Min ha'Yom Asher Banu Osah
Ad ha'Yom ha'Zeh". (Yirmiyah)
How did Rebbi Yehoshua resolve all these discrepancies?
5)
(a) The men of Alexandria also asked Rebbi Yehoshua three questions of no
consequence:
- 1. Whether Lot's wife is Metamei Meis?
- 2. Whether the son of the Shunamis (whom Elisha brought back to life) is
Metamei Meis?
- 3. Whether the dead who will come back to life at Techiy'as ha'Meisim will
require sprinkling with the ashes of the Parah Adumah?
What did he answer them?
6)
And they also asked three questions regarding worldly matters:
1. What should someone do in order to become wise?
(a) What did Rebbi Yehoshua initially answer, and what objection did they
raise?
(b) What was his ultimate reply?
Then what was the point of his original answer?
(c) What do we learn from Rebbi Chiya's parable of a King who made a party?
7)
2. They also asked him what someone should do in order to become wealthy.
(a) What was his initial answer, and what did he add after they again
objected?
3. Their final question was what one must do in order to have sons.
(b) What combination will achieve that?
(c) What do we learn from the Pasuk in Tehilim "Hinei Nachalas Hashem
Banim, *Sachar P'ri ha'Baten"?
