Nazir 55

1) THE DECREE ON CHUTZ LA'ARETZ

(a) Suggestion: Tana'im argue on the decree on Chutz La'aretz.
1. (Beraisa - Rebbi): One who enters Chutz La'aretz in a box becomes Tamei; R. Yosi b'Rebbi Yehudah says he remains Tahor.
i. Suggestion: R. Yosi b'Rebbi Yehudah holds that the decree was on the soil, and Rebbi holds that the decree was on the air.
(b) Rejection #1: No, both hold that the decree was on the soil.
1. R. Yosi b'Rebbi Yehudah holds that a moving tent is considered a tent (and the bottom of the box shields from the Tum'ah of the soil); Rebbi holds, it is not considered a tent.
2. Version #1 (according to Tosfos) Support (Beraisa - R. Yosi b'Rebbi Yehudah): A box full of vessels was thrown over a corpse - the vessels become Tamei; if the box was being carried, the vessels inside remain Tahor.
3. Version #2 (according to Rashi) Objection (Beraisa - R. Yosi b'Rebbi Yehudah): A box full of vessels was thrown over a corpse - the vessels become Tamei; if the box was stationary, the vessels inside remain Tahor.
(c) Rejection #2: Both hold that the decree was on the air
1. R. Yosi b'Rebbi Yehudah holds, since it is uncommon to enter Chutz La'aretz in a box, the decree was not made in such a case; Rebbi holds, the decree was made even in such a case.
2. Support (Beraisa): One who enters Chutz La'aretz in a box, he is Tahor; in a wagon, boat or masted ship, he is Tamei.
(d) Rejection #3: They argue whether we decree lest he stick his head or majority if his body outside the box
1. Support (Beraisa - R. Yosi b'Rebbi Yehudah): One who enters Chutz La'aretz in a box, he is Tahor; until he sticks out his head or majority of his body.
2) DAYS OF ABSOLUTE LEPROSY AND COUNTING
(a) (Mishnah): He (re-)starts counting ...
(b) (Rav Chisda): This only applies to a small Nezirus; by a long Nezirus, (all days of leprosy) count.
(c) Question (Rav Sharbiya - Mishnah): He begins counting immediately, and does not nullify previous days.
1. Question: What is the case?
i. Suggestion: If he was only a Nazir for 30 days - previous days are nullified, for he must grow 30 days of hair to complete Nezirus!
55b---------------------------------------55b

2. Answer: Rather, it was a long Nezirus, and the Mishnah says, he starts counting immediately (*after* purification)!
(d) Answer (Rav Sharbiya): The 'long Nezirus' Rav Chisda spoke of meant that 30 days remained after the leprosy, e.g. a 50 day Nezirus and he became an absolute leper after 20 days.
1. After shaving at the end of leprosy, he guards the 30 remaining days of Nezirus.
(e) Question #1 (Rami bar Chama - Mishnah): A Nazir doubtfully became Tamei (Mes), and was doubtfully an absolute leper - he can eat Kodshim after 60 days, and can drink wine and become Tamei after 120 days.
