***************GIRSA SECTION********************
We recommend using the textual changes suggested by the Bach, Rav B. Rensburg and the parenthetical marginal notes of the Vilna Shas. This section is devoted to any *OTHER* changes that we feel ought to be made in Gemara, Rashi or Tosfos.)

[1] Gemara 99a [line 36]:
The words "Al Tikrei *l'Mesan'ai* Ela *l'Masni'ai*"
should be "Al Tikrei *Mesan'ai* Ela *Masni'ai*" (Dikdukei Sofrim #10.
This is the Girsa in the Ein Yakov, and in Rashi to the Ein Yakov.)

[2] Rashi 99a [DH Ela (l'Masni'ai) Masni'ai -- see Girsa above]:
The words "*l'Masni'im* Da'ato b'Aninus"
Should be "*l'Masni* Da'ato b'Aninus" (Rashi to the Ein Yakov)
************************************************

1) [line 24] B'YADAYIM MESO'AVOS - with hands that are Tamei
2) [line 28] MUCHLEFES HA'SHITAH - Rebbi Yehudah changed his opinion from what he held previously

3) [line 29] KICHO - his phlegm (that is brought up by coughing [O.F. tos - cough])
4) [line 35] "... KOL MESAN'AI AHAVU MAVES" - "... all those who hate Me, love death." (Mishlei 8:36) - By reading the word Mesan'ai as Masni'ai (see Girsa section #1, #2), the Gemara interprets this verse to mean that one who causes the sensitive mind of his Rebbi to be repulsed and revolted is worthy of death.

5) [line 36] V'HA MEINAS ANIS - but he is forced to do so!?
6) [line 40] V'CHEN B'GAS - and similarly regarding drinking grape juice without taking Ma'aser, when drinking it straight from the wine-press, before it flows into the collection pit

7) [line 41] B'CHAFEITZIN SHE'TZERICHIN LO - the Mishnah is dealing with objects that he needs

99b---------------------------------------99b

8) [line 2] SHOSIN AL HA'GAS (MA'ASER: ACHILAS ARA'I LIFNEI MIRU'ACH) One is permitted to drink grape juice straight from the wine-press, before it flows into the collection pit into which the juice flows just after being pressed. This is considered Shtiyas Ara'i, and is exempt from the requirement of Hafrashas Ma'aser (tithing).

9) [line 6] HA'MOSAR - the leftover [grape juice]
10) [line 6] KOLET ADAM - a person may hold a utensil in the air to catch water that falls from the Mazcheilah

11) [line 7] MAZCHEILAH - a gutter that is attached to the wall of a house and is within three Tefachim of the roof (and does not jut out three Tefachim from the edge of the building)

*12*) [line 7] L'MATAH ME'ASARAH TEFACHIM - In summary, Rashi explains the Gemara as follows: The normal Mazcheilah is within three Tefachim of a Reshus ha'Yachid (the roof) and it is therefore considered to be a Reshus ha'Yachid itself. The normal Tzinor is further than three Tefachim from Reshus ha'Yachid and is not part of Reshus ha'Yachid; furthermore, it is less than 4 x 4 Tefachim wide and therefore it is not even a Karmelis. Therefore, one may be Metzaref (i.e., fill a vessel directly from the water flowing from the Tzinor while one stands in Reshus ha'Rabim) only in the case of a Tzinor that is below 10 Tefachim from the ground which is less than 4 x 4 wide, since it is a Mekom Petur. If it is higher than 10 Tefachim, one may not fill from it directly; if we were to permit that, one may fill directly from a Tzinor even when it is broader than 4 x 4 and higher than 10, which is a Reshus ha'Yachid. Similarly, one may never fill directly from a Mazcheilah, since it is a Reshus ha'Yachid.

13) [line 7] U'MIN HA'TZINOR MI'KOL MAKOM SHOSEH - and when collecting water from a pipe (that does jut out three Tefachim from the edge of the building), he may either collect the water in the air or directly from the pipe and drink it

14) [line 19] CHULYASO - its embankment that is comprised of dirt from the pit
15) [line 25] MUFLEGES - separated
16) [line 36] SEIRATON - (O.F. limon) silt (thin, slippery mud that is soft, sticky and half-liquid); mud that forms a sand bank

17) [line 38] HA'MESICH AL HA'ARETZ - that hangs over the ground
18) [line 39] NOFO - the end of its branches
19) [last line] BEIS SE'ASAYIM - a parcel of land in which two Se'ah of grain is normally planted, which is the area of the Azarah of the Mishkan, 50 by 100 Amos, approx. 1,152 square meters (12,400 square feet) or 1,659 square meters (17,856 square feet), depending upon the differing Halachic opinions
