Eruvin 20

ERUVIN 16-20 sponsored by a generous grant from an anonymous donor. Kollel Iyun Hadaf is indebted to him for his encouragement and support and prays that Hashem will repay him in kind.

*1*) [line 6] EIRUV MO'IL L'VEIN HA'PASIN - [lest people think that] a Shitufei Mavo'os may be placed between Pasei Bira'os to permit carrying from one Chatzer that opens into the Pasim to the next.

2) [line 30] KA BAK'EI BAH RABIM - the public make a shortcut through it

20b---------------------------------------20b

3) [line 1] V'CHEN B'GAS - and similarly regarding drinking wine without taking Ma'aser when drinking from the pit into which the wine flows just after being pressed

4) [line 4] MIL'GAV - on the inside
*5*) [line 10] LO YEMALEI... V'YITEN B'SHABBOS LIFNEI VEHEMTO - that is, one cannot feed an animal by holding the bucket from which the animal eats, *without* holding the animal itself. (The Gemara assumes that the Beraisa is discussing a situation where one is *not* holding the animal itself, since if he is holding the animal it is certainly *permitted* to feed the animal, under all circumstances.)

6) [line 12] EVUS - a feeding trough
7) [line 15] D'MEKALKAL - that it became damaged
8) [line 15] V'DARA LEI L'DAVLA BAHADEI - and he will carry the bucket with him
9) [line 19] HA'MEFANEH CHAFATZAV - one who removes his articles
10) [line 19] MI'ZAVIS L'ZAVIS - from one corner of the house to another

11) [line 20] SHE'LO HAYESAH AKIRAH MI'SHA'AH RISHONAH L'CHACH
(a) Hotza'ah is the last of the thirty-nine Avos Melachos of Shabbos. It involves either (a) the sub-category of "Hotza'ah," or transferring objects from a Reshus ha'Yachid to a Reshus ha'Rabim, (b) Hachnasah, which refers to the opposite action, is part of the same category of Melachah, (c) Ma'avir Arba Amos b'Reshus ha'Rabim, or carrying an object from one place in Reshus ha'Rabim to another over a distance of at least four Amos, (d) Moshit, which involves *passing* an object from one Reshus ha'Yachid to another through Reshus ha'Rabim above ten Tefachim (as described in the Mishnah on Daf 96a, see Background to Daf 4a).se are all biblical prohibitions.
(b) In order to transgress the biblical prohibition of Hotza'ah, certain conditions must be met. An Akirah (initiation of movement) and a Hanachah (putting the object to rest) must be performed on the object by the same person.
(c) One transgresses the biblical prohibition of Hotza'ah only if he picked up the object which he moved (Akirah) with the *intention* of placing it down again in another Reshus. If he decides to place it in another Reshus only *after* picking it up, he has not transgressed a biblical prohibition, and hence need not bring a Korban Chatas for atonement.

*12*) [line 39] TA SHEMA, GAMAL - [This proof is addressing the *first* question of the Gemara, whether one may feed an animal which is not mostly inside the Pasim if he holds the animal as well as the bucket from which it is eating.]

13) [line 39] OVSIN OSO - it is permitted to stuff it with food (make an "Evus", trough, out of its stomach; i.e. make its stomach swell with food)

14) [line 44] MIDI GABEI HADADI TANYA- where they taught together (in the same Beraisa)?
